Is Hedonism Bad for Society?
#hedonism #philosophy #ethics Is hedonism bad for society? In this video I discuss hedonism and whether it is more harmful or beneficial for society. I discuss the common misconceptions about hedonism and defining what is hedonism and clarifying the difference between common hedonism and philosophical hedonism. Many influential philosophers were hedonists including Epicurus, Aristippus, Jeremy Bentham and Peter Singer, therefore I would be difficult to dismiss hedonism as something that doesn't offer any value, whether through axiological hedonism or ethical hedonism. Of particular interest to me is epicurian hedonism as it focuses on mental and intellectual pleasures above the physical ones as well as ataraxia, a concept which I discuss in the video and compare to eudaimonia that I have also covered in several of my other videos. My name is Alexander and in the past I have been making primarily detransition content which eventually branched out towards other subjects such as philosophy, politics, mental health, social issues, films, video games and music. I cover a variety of different topics on this channel.
