I traced my hidden Louisiana Creole roots to Melrose Plantation
My favorite books: https://www.amazon.com/shop/nytn?ref_... #familyhistory #findingyourroots #ancestrydna #dnatest #louisiana #nativeamerican #creole #ancestry #familyhistory #genealogy #emancipation #blackhistorymonth Although the documentary series "Finding Lola" has been completed, my family history journey has only just begun. My goal was to locate one of the bricks made by my 5th grandfather, Noel Coindet, during his time as an enslaved individual. Unfortunately, the plantation where he worked had burned down over a decade ago, and I was unsure of how to proceed. Join me on an adventure to Melrose Plantation (home of Marie Therese CoinCoin) in Natchitoches, Louisiana, as I search for these bricks and explore the significance of being a descendant of an enslaved ancestor and finding my roots where I least expected. Rewatch episodes of "Finding Lola" • MY family story of "White Passing" -------- Come join me on a new docu-series that explores identity, racial tensions in the South during the 20th century, and the unique experiences of those who historically called Louisiana home. My name is Danielle Romero, and all my life, I have romanticized Louisiana. Growing up in New York, it represented a place where I could step back the sepia-toned life of my great grandmother, Lola Perot, who died before I was born. Now, it was time to go back to Louisiana--although I had no idea what the truth would be or what questions to ask---who was Lola really? Who were we? Amazon links are affiliate links.
