The film is based on Akio Fukamachi's novel "Endless Thirst." It follows the protagonist, former detective Showa Fujishima, played by Koji Yakusho, as he searches for his missing daughter, Kanako (played by Komatsu). Other cast members include Yakusho, Satoshi Tsumabuki, Fumi Nikaido, Ai Hashimoto, Miki Nakatani, Hiroya Shimizu, Aoi Morikawa, and Mahiro Takasugi. Komatsu, Shimizu, Morikawa, and Takasugi all appeared at the stage greeting in yukata robes. Komatsu shared an anecdote about yukata, saying, "I've worn one a lot during filming, but the last time I wore one in my private life was at a summer festival in junior high school. At the time, I was soaked in the pouring rain and watched the fireworks."
