𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡: Santa Monica Pier Pedestrian Bridge Set to Open Friday

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Tuesday, June 2, 2026 — Construction crews continued work on the temporary pedestrian bridge serving the Santa Monica Pier, installing new decking boards and additional project infrastructure as the bridge nears its anticipated opening on Friday, June 5. Workers installed longer pier decking boards one day after crews removed sections of the existing deck adjacent to the bridge construction area. The replacement boards accommodate the wider footprint of the temporary pedestrian bridge and help create a smoother transition for visitors traveling between the Pier and Ocean Avenue. At the same time, another crew erected temporary plywood screening walls beneath and alongside portions of the bridge. The barriers create a controlled construction zone, helping separate ongoing work activities from adjacent pedestrian areas and nearby businesses while screening operations from public view. Additional crews continued attaching informational and advertising display panels along the sides of the temporary bridge. The panels provide wayfinding information and promote Pier businesses while enhancing the appearance of the temporary structure. The temporary pedestrian bridge is a key component of the Santa Monica Pier Bridge Replacement Project, which will replace the aging 1939 bridge connecting Ocean Avenue to the Pier. The existing bridge serves as the only vehicular access route to the Pier and one of the city's most heavily traveled pedestrian corridors. The broader project will deliver a new seismically resilient bridge designed to improve safety, accessibility, and mobility while preserving the historic character of the Pier entrance. The replacement structure will include a wider pedestrian walkway and is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. Construction of the temporary bridge and access improvements is expected to continue through this week, with the pedestrian bridge anticipated to open to the public on Friday, June 5.
