Medal of Honor Recipient US Army Sergeant First Class Sammy Davis Inspired by watching Roger Donlon receive the first Medal of Honor awarded during the Vietnam War, Sammy L. Davis enlisted in the U.S. Army once he graduated from high school. Upon completing his artillery training, he requested to serve in Vietnam. On Nov. 18, 1967, he and his unit were airlifted to Cai Lay, Vietnam. His actions that day earned him the Medal of Honor.
