Mortal Kombat 3 [SNES] - Shao Kahn in 1P mode

This is a playthrough of single player mode using Shao Kahn in the SNES version of Mortal Kombat 3. Read on below for more information... Shao Kahn is the 2nd and final boss of the game. He is a hidden playable character, but he can only be selected in a 2-player game, meaning that he is unavailable in a single-player game. ===== HOW TO UNLOCK SHAO KAHN ===== On the menu screen, input the following command: [X], [B], [A], [Y], Up, Left, Down, Right, Down If you've done it right, the "Scotts Stuff" option will appear. Go into this section, and switch ON the "Enable Shao Kahn" option. He'll now be available in a 2-player game by appearing in the center dragon panel on the character select screen. ===== SPECIAL MOVES ===== -- Shoulder Charge: F,F + [LP] -- Knee Charge: F,F + [HP] -- Fireball: B,B,F + [LP] -- Mallet: B,F + [HP] -- Laugh: D,D + [HK] -- Taunt: D,D + [LK] ===== ABOUT SNES MK3 SHAO KAHN ===== Shao Kahn originally appeared in Mortal Kombat 2 as the last boss, and is an unplayable character in all the genuine versions of MK2. Even using alternate methods to select him in the 16-bit and 32-bit versions of MK2 was pretty useless, as he easily locked the game if you try to control him (you may have seen this on my channel). The breakthrough finally came in the SNES and Mega Drive versions of Mortal Kombat 3, where Shao Kahn was made a genuine playable character in them, accessed within hidden options screens whereby the player would have to input a command to unlock them. Gameplay-wise, Shao Kahn is a very powerful character in this version of the game, and as a MK boss, he plays completely differently to the regular characters. Here is the information on him: ---- He can only jump straight up, which means that he cannot jump forwards nor backwards. ---- When jumping straight up, he cannot attack, meaning he has no air basics. ---- He cannot crouch. ---- He can actually run by using the [RUN] button, this is something the CPU Kahn never uses. ---- He does not have any finishing moves, nor can finishing moves be performed on him. ---- His block animation is just 1 frame of animation. ---- In a 2-player game, only one player can select him. ---- When a human controls Shao Kahn, there are some differences to how he operates when being hit/stunned. These include: being knocked over by a sweep or roundhouse; travelling higher when uppercut by the opponent; and less hitstun pushback - this makes him weaker than the CPU Kahn. He seems more "lighter" than the CPU Kahn. ---- Under human control, his Mallet doesn't stun the opponent into a dizzy state if it hits, unlike the CPU Kahn. ---- There is a glitch with his Taunt move. If the opponent attacks as he is finishing the Taunt, it will render him being unable to move for the rest of the round. The reason for this is that there is a small window where the CPU controls him as he finishes the Taunt... so if the opponent attacks it "activates" the CPU response. ---- There is a minor bug where if he is knocked him down and the opponent hits him while he blocks (before he stands back up), he goes into his "defeated" animation/sprites (where the green aura surrounds him before he explodes). ---- In human vs human matches, he is always locked on his stage background (The Pit 3) against the regular characters. However when against the non-regular characters (Motaro, Noob Saibot and locked Smoke, who also have locked stages) his stage priority is varies. ---- When you complete the game with him, it just locks up. ---- In a versus game on the character select screen, if Shao Kahn is selected it does not go to a versus screen. Instead, it just goes to the fight straight away. ===== ABOUT SNES MK3 ===== This is a pretty good port of the arcade game... as MK got more advanced, it's clear that it got less close to the arcade when compared to the superb MK2 port. It should be noted that the Graveyard stage background is not in the SNES version of the game.
