In this video, I take you inside Mosul, one of the most devastated cities in the world. What I saw here is something I never imagined was possible. Every street in Mosul still carries the scars of war. Buildings are destroyed, walls are covered with bullet marks, and many homes still have holes in their iron doors where bullets were fired. I even entered abandoned houses where people’s belongings—clothes, utensils, and children’s toys—are still lying there, untouched… as if life suddenly stopped. This destruction is the result of the brutal control of ISIS, an extremist group that captured Mosul in 2014. During their rule, thousands of innocent people were killed, families were separated, and fear became a part of daily life. The situation became even more intense during the Battle of Mosul, a massive military operation to take back the city. The battle lasted for months and led to heavy destruction. Entire neighborhoods were reduced to rubble, and countless civilians lost their lives, homes, and businesses. Even today, years after the war, the pain is still visible. Many people in Mosul have lost everything—family, homes, and their livelihoods. You can still see tears in their eyes and feel the emotional weight they carry. But despite all this… I also experienced something unexpected. As an Indian traveler and a Hindu, I was welcomed here with kindness and respect. The people of Mosul, even after facing so much suffering, still have warmth in their hearts. Their humanity and hospitality show that even after so much destruction, hope and kindness are still alive.
