Mark Duplass, Mel Eslyn, Megan Stott, Austin Abrams Discuss Indie TV Pilot ‘Penelope’
Mark Duplass returns to Sundance with a 30-minute pilot about a 16-year-old (Megan Stott) who leaves her family to live in the wilderness. Duplass and producing partner Mel Eslyn, who took the creative leap to co-writer-director-showrunner with “Penelope,” stopped by the IndieWire Studio, presented Dropbox, to discuss the inspiration for their series, why they needed to go the indie route of funding all 8-episodes themselves, and how the collaborated with Stott and Abrams in creating a very different portrayal of teenagers than what we see on TV.
