Warum ist das Leben in Amerika schlechter als in Europa

The situation is supposedly so dire that, according to these figures, Europe and the United Kingdom are poorer than the poorest US state. But what if all of this is nonsense? This chart ranks the United Kingdom behind Mississippi in terms of GDP per capita. But what if we didn't judge the United Kingdom by GDP, but by things that actually tell us something about quality of life? Suddenly, it's not at the bottom of the list. Quite the opposite. If we look at life expectancy, years spent in education, the murder rate, access to healthcare, or almost any other indicator of quality of life, the United Kingdom fares better than the United States. So, if that's true, why are we using GDP at all? And, more importantly, is America really richer than Europe, or are we just using the wrong yardstick? If you look at a map of Europe, you'll find that most European countries are among a group of nations that, measured by GDP per capita, are poorer than Mississippi. Nevertheless, many of these supposedly poorer countries have a free healthcare system, a higher average life expectancy, and often seem more like a place where one would like to live than the opposite.
