You wont miss our next video of the port of call of Kona on the Big island. When you step off your ship at the Port of Hilo, one of the first things you’ll notice is how removed it feels from town. The harbor sits a couple of miles outside downtown Hilo, in a working industrial area perfectly functional, but not somewhere you’d want to set off on foot. There are no inviting sidewalks or scenic walking routes leading into town, and that’s exactly why the shuttle system becomes such an important and convenient part of the experience, you’ll find buses waiting in a loose but organized line. These are the free shuttles that make getting into downtown Hilo simple and they run continuous loops between the port and a bus stop across from the farmers market in downtown Hilo. There’s no need to plan ahead, no tickets to buy, and no real schedule to worry about. You just step aboard when you’re ready, find a seat, and the shuttle carries you away from the industrial harbor into the greener, more lived-in parts of Hilo.
