The story we're going to learn about today is that of the beautiful and extremely rare DKW Vemague Vemaguete, a station wagon that made its mark on Brazil with its curiosities, completely unknown to most Brazilians. In 1956, during the government of Juscelino Kubitschek, the Executive Group for the Automotive Industry (GEIA) was created with the objective of enabling and encouraging the production of national automobiles through fiscal, exchange rate, and commercial incentives. Seeing these government incentives, Vemague decided to produce vehicles from the German factory DKW in Brazil under license. The first vehicle approved by GEIA, and also the first nationally produced vehicle in the country, was the DKW Vemague Universal model station wagon, launched on November 19, 1956. However, the first truly national car was the Romi Iseta, launched on September 5 of that same year, 1956. Nevertheless, its characteristics, such as its size, single front door, and capacity for only two people and a child, prevented it from meeting GEIA's standards. Therefore, the title of first national car went to the DKW station wagon.
