Blaise Misztal: Iran Will Try to Drag Out Negotiations (Fox LiveNOW)

JINSA Vice President for Policy Blaise Misztal joined Fox LiveNOW to assess ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations and explain why he remains skeptical that Tehran will ultimately agree to meaningful restrictions on its nuclear program. Misztal argued that Iran has repeatedly resisted diplomatic pressure from both Republican and Democratic administrations and warned that the regime is likely to continue its long-standing strategy of delaying negotiations while seeking additional concessions. "The Iranians are probably going to do what they always do," he said, "drag their feet, kick this 60-day timeline down the road, and try to get away with not making a deal for as long as possible." He also warned that Iran is attempting to "drive a wedge between the United States and Israel" by using the Lebanon provisions of the memorandum of understanding to constrain Israel's ability to respond to Hezbollah attacks despite not being a party to the agreement. According to Misztal, Tehran is trying to force Washington to recognize Iran's influence in Lebanon while giving itself room to continue supporting regional proxies. Looking ahead, Misztal argued that the ultimate test of any agreement will not be promises made on paper but whether robust verification measures are put in place. He emphasized that international inspectors, continuous monitoring, and a formal role for the IAEA are essential, warning that "unless there are international inspectors on the ground, cameras monitoring 24/7, we just can't believe" that Iran has abandoned its nuclear ambitions.
