The BYD Sealion 7 is a medium/family-sized electric SUV that is a direct rival to the Tesla Model Y, VW ID.4, Kia EV5 and more. Built in China it offers a lot for the money, at $54,900, before on-road costs, for the Premium tested here. For that, you get 4.8 metres of metal with a single rear-mounted electric motor developing 230kW and 380Nm for 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds, with up to 482km of WLTP-rated driving range. BYD also sells a twin-motor Performance grade which ups the power and expense ante.
