Monica Raymund Interview for HighTown Season 2

On Saturday, October 16, STARZ celebrated the highly anticipated second season of “Hightown” with a Los Angeles premiere event, screening and panel at the Pacific Design Center. In attendance were “Hightown” cast members Monica Raymund, James Badge Dale, Riley Voelkel, Amaury Nolasco, Atkins Estimond, and Dohn Norwood, as well as executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer, executive Producer & creator Rebecca Cutter and executive producer Gary Lennon. Jeffrey Hirsch (President and CEO, STARZ), Alison Hoffman (President, Domestic Networks, STARZ) and Karen Bailey (Executive Vice President of Original Programming, STARZ) also joined the cast to celebrate the season two premiere. The evening began with a bustling red carpet in West Hollywood, followed by a special screening of the premiere episode, which was introduced by STARZ CEO, Jeffrey Hirsch, Executive Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Executive Producer & Creator Rebecca Cutter. During his remarks Bruckheimer said, “I started reading it and I said ‘this is really real and fabulous. These are great characters with a lot of depth and a lot of damage.’ It’s just terrific when you read something that jumps off the page.” Closing out the opening remarks, Cutter shared, “It’s all on the screen. It’s a wild season, a lot of highs and lows...I think that’s a huge testament to our partners at STARZ and Lionsgate who have just been so supportive from the jump and really never tried to butter this down, [they] always supported the vision.” Following the episode, Tracy E. Gilchrist, Editor in Chief of The Advocate, moderated a thoughtful and meaningful Q&A with series stars Monica Raymund, James Badge Dale, Riley Voelkel, Amaury Nolasco, Atkins Estimond, and Dohn Norwood, along with Executive Producer & Creator Rebecca Cutter. “It’s one of the greatest honors of my life,” Raymund said about playing the role of Jackie Quiñones. “There weren’t people who looked like me or walked like me. There weren’t a lot of characters when I was growing up that were Latina or maybe occupied the Queer spaces. To be able to hang in a space that was usually occupied by males, that was incredible to have the opportunity.” In true Cape Cod fashion, crab cakes, clam chowder and fish and chips were served during the lively reception following the screening and Q&A.
