YOUR GOUT DIET - How to Eat to Reverse Gout #goutrelief #gout
This GOUT Intervention Diet, designed to kick-start your recovery, should be followed for as long as necessary, in conjunction with stress management (to lower cortisol levels), better sleep planning, therapeutic exercise, and the absence of alcohol and tobacco (diet alone is unlikely to work if you continue drinking and smoking). As this is intended to be a medium term program implemented as a specific health intervention, it is not flexible the way a long term, sustainable "lifestyle" diet would be. Once healing has progressed, you can make your own decisions about when to relax some rules, and by how much. The 4 aims of this regime are to bring down INFLAMMATION, lose WEIGHT, lower URIC ACID PRODUCTION and improve KIDNEY FUNCTION. Eating according to the guidelines below will address those aims: Avoid sugars/carbohydrates and starches - no bread, pasta, cereals, candies, potatoes, rice, corn, oats or wheat products, and no sugary desserts, cakes, cookies, candies, sodas, ice-cream or sweetened dairy. Sugars boost insulin, and insulin is inflammatory. You will also find it impossible to lose significant weight if you eat carbohydrates. Processed foods, often injected with additional fructose, should be avoided, as fructose consumption is probably the single biggest contributor to Uric Acid production. Eat red meat*, chicken and turkey but avoid highly processed products. Red meat in the form of mince (or ground beef) or patties is generally higher in fat therefore recommended. *Eat fish (particularly cold water, oily fish like salmon or sardines) and *eggs*. The best "protein foods" are those containing more fats and oils that you will need for energy in the absence of sugars, and to prevent the undesired burning of protein for energy (which increases Uric Acid). For this reason, avoid "lean" meats and shun processed proteins or protein supplements like powders. Eat cheese, cream, butter & raw yoghurt for the fats, but avoid milk due to the sugar content. Never use "fat free" dairy! Nuts are healthy, particularly walnuts, pecans and almonds, but avoid peanuts (legumes) as they are inflammatory. Eat some vegetables - more leafy greens (high vitamins and minerals) than underground veggies (like carrots) or "fruit" vegetables (like pumpkin) as the green ones are lower in sugars. Cruciferous veggies are best: cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, artichokes as well as asparagus and leeks. Avoid legumes (beans, lentils, peas) and the "nightshade" family (peppers, tomatoes, eggplant or brinjal) as they can be inflammatory. *Eat green salads*, including cucumber (mostly water with low sugar) and lettuce. (NOTE *if you prefer a Carnivore Diet*: It is OK to skip the vegetables but critical to ensure you obtain sufficient VitC, so ensure seafood and organ meats feature regularly.) Avoid fruit (high sugar, especially Fructose) but eat avocados and olives (low sugar, high oil/fat). *Eat pumpkin seeds*, chia and flax seeds. *Use turmeric (curcumin)*, ginger and garlic in cooking (naturally anti-inflammatories). Cook with butter or lard. Add olive oil to all meals before eating. Supplement with Omega-3 Oil for its anti-inflammatory properties. Drink adequate fluids to maintain kidney function, and supplement with a general electrolyte that includes Potassium and Magnesium, and ensure adequate salt intake (salt food to taste - your body knows!)
