You will come as lightning [Byzantine patriotic song] (1453)

-History: You will come as lightning or "Θά'ρθεις σαν αστραπή" in greek, is a song about the fall of Constantinople in 1453. The city was the capital of what we refer to as "Byzantium" and was a one of the biggest if not the biggest at times city on the world. The greecs however didnt call themselves "Byzantines". They saw themselves as the continueation of the Roman empire and refered to themselves as Romans. The rest of europe called them Byzantines to "loosen" the Byzantine grip on claiming to be the Roman empire, since there were many more countries proclaiming themselves to be the continuation of the Roman Empire like the Holy Roman empire for instance, wich was a massive empire located in what we call today "Germany" and some other countries surrounding it. The fall of Constantinople to the Turks was a massive blow to all christians in Europe. This event shaped history as we know it today. Constantine Dragases Palaiologos was the last byzantine emperor. He stayed in Constantinople to defend his capital to the very end. No real evidence of the death of Constantine exists to this day, but many historians say he charged his troops into battle and was never seen after again. He was the last emperor to inherit the Augustus title. After the fall of Constantinople, mehmed the conqueror rode into the city on a white horse, ordering his soldiers to stop the plunderingthe city. He rode until stopping at the Hagia Sophia, where he proclaimed Constantinople to be the new Capital of the Ottoman empire. -You can support me on patreon if you wish:   / posts   Be sure to join our discord if you like history:   / discord   -Do you like historical songs or anthems?
