Visiting Palau's Villages, WWII Remains and Natural Sites (1968)
The Palau islands are long and skinny with a lot of inlets and good harbour areas with a surrounding barrier reef that provides protection to boats. Koror where we stayed is a busy commercial and entertainment area. We were shown the Koror area by a nun, Sister Robert Marie, seeing a crocodile at the Entomology Lab. We still have the storyboard Bernardino made for us. We took a boat dropping off new PCVs on Babeldaob at villages only accessible by water and spent part of a day in the village of Ngeremlengui. Another day we took a boat to Peleliu and saw WWII sites in one of the two vehicles there. It was a big help to have Tom, from the American Embassy in Japan, touring with us and able to talk with everyone in Japanese. Mostly, only the children spoke English. On the final boat trip, we enjoyed a Labor Day beach picnic. Girl with long dark hair on boat at 6:07 is Pat Ngirous Slate. www.kpvcollection.com
