Van Espinama naar Caín de Valdeón

Monday May 23, 2022 Espinama – Caín de Valdeón (Picos de Europa, boardcam) #Espinama, #CaíndeValdeón, #PicosdeEuropa 'Iberia': day 12 It rained a bit last night. The mountains are gone, there are low clouds. We drove back to Potes. From Potes we drove southwest on the Carretera Leon Unquera (N-621). It was a beautiful mountain road, despite the still low cloud cover. We stopped for lunch at Puerto de San Glorio. The cloud cover seemed to break open and for a moment we saw the surrounding mountains through the mist. A vulture soared just below us. Nice to be able to see it from above. We continued on the N-621 to Portilla de la Reina and then turned onto the smaller LE-2703 to Posada de Valdeón. In Posada de Valdeón the navigation sent us right onto the road to Caín de Valdeón to get to the camper place in Posada de Valdeón. However, there was a sign forbidding campers on that road. A sign to the camper place told us to turn left. There were many signs in the village to the camper place. Apparently several navigation systems cannot find the way to the camper place. Because we were not allowed to take the road to Caín de Valdeón from the LE-2703, we drove through Posada de Valdeón to get to the road to Caín de Valdeón from the other side. They were narrow roads, but we got to the road to Caín de Valdeón without encountering a prohibition sign. The road to Caín de Valdeón led through the spectacular gorge and was very narrow in some passages. Some oncoming traffic made the road even more exciting. We drove on and ended up in Caín de Valdeón, a small village in the middle of the gorge. We were allowed to spend the night in the parking lot of the La Ruta hostel. It was 13 degrees here and the low hanging clouds were cold. At about 7 o'clock it also started to rain. We turned on the heater in the camper.
