Yúcahu — Taíno God of Cassava & Sea | Indigenous Caribbean Ceremonial Song (Areíto)
A ceremonial song honoring Yúcahu Bagua Maorocoti, the supreme deity of the Taíno people—lord of the cassava (yuca) and the sea, born of the mother goddess Atabey alone. This piece is a respectful reconstruction inspired by the areíto, the Taíno ceremonial song-and-dance tradition, using the instruments the Taíno were known to play: the mayohuacan slit-drum, güiro, maracas, and conch shell (fotuto). Since no Taíno recordings survived European colonization, this is a modern tribute to the Indigenous spiritual world of the Caribbean—Puerto Rico (Borikén), Hispaniola, Cuba, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. 🌿 Yúcahu fed the islands through the cassava harvest and the bounty of the sea. 🌊 He was immortal, with no male ancestor—a god of fertility, agriculture, and life. Honoring the ancestors and the living legacy of Taíno culture. ▶️ If this moved you, like, subscribe, and share to keep Indigenous Caribbean heritage alive. #Taino #Yucahu #IndigenousMusic #CaribbeanHeritage #Areito #puertorico #boricua #boriken
