Payntr Reserve RS vs SL – Spiked or Spikeless? Here's Which One to Buy

Payntr Reserve RS vs Reserve SL Golf Shoe Review – Spiked or Spikeless? (#68 & #69 of 150) Same shoe. Two versions. One clear winner. Spencer reviews the Payntr Reserve RS (spiked) and Reserve SL (spikeless) side by side — wearing both simultaneously — to tell you exactly which one to buy and why. 💰 Payntr Reserve RS: $150 | Payntr Reserve SL: $140 --- ⚙️ WHAT ARE THESE SHOES? The Payntr Reserve RS and SL are the same exact shoe above the sole. Same upper, same shape, same midsole — just a different outsole system. Cost-cutting versions of Payntr's flagship All Day SC, but still very capable shoes at a friendlier price point. 👤 WHO ARE THESE FOR? Wide-footed golfers who want a roomy toe box and natural comfort at a great price. Walking golfers who prioritize comfort and don't need maximum traction. NOT recommended for flat-footed golfers — the wide upper will give you too much extra room and the shoe will bunch in the toe box. --- 📊 BREAKDOWN ✅ WHAT MAKES PAYNTR DIFFERENT Payntr builds their shoes around a super spongy midsole and a very malleable rubber outsole. The whole bottom of the shoe is formable and bendable — every spike and nub moves with your foot. This is why Payntr shoes are generally so comfortable to walk in. Low heel drop of about three to five millimeters keeps your heel and toe on a level plane — great for stability and energy transfer through the swing without losing your balance. Wide toe box is one of Payntr's signatures. If you have wide feet this is one of the best places to start. If you have a narrow flat foot like Spencer, you'll get too much extra room in the upper and the shoe will bunch and curl in the toe box. ✅ SPIKELESS SL — THE WINNER Traction runs heel to toe across the entire bottom of the shoe. Super light at 14 ounces — dropping two ounces per shoe saves you roughly 600-700 pounds of weight over six miles of walking. Most natural feeling of the two. No spikes coming through the midsole on hard surfaces. At $140 it's one of the best value walking shoes in the series. ✅ SPIKED RS — ALMOST AS GOOD The spikes add aggressive grip and sink into the ground for a slightly better base and more stability at address. A little heavier and more grounded. The tradeoff: Payntr removes all the traction nubs from the center of the outsole to make room for the spikes — so you actually lose overall surface area traction compared to the spikeless version. On hard surfaces you can feel the stubby spikes coming through the spongy midsole into your foot. Not a dealbreaker — just noticeable. 💪 KEY STRENGTHS — BOTH VERSIONS Roomy toe box — best in class for wide feet Super spongy midsole — very comfortable to walk in Low heel drop — great for stability and balance Malleable rubber outsole — moves naturally with your foot No break-in required — soft upper right out of the box Easy to wear on and off the course ⚠️ KEY WEAKNESSES — BOTH VERSIONS Soft thin leather upper — feels light but may wear out faster than premium alternatives Needs re-tightening shortly after first wear as leather stretches Generic overall feel despite good comfort numbers Not for narrow or flat feet — too much room in upper Spiked version loses center traction for the spikes --- 🏆 SCORES Payntr Reserve SL (Spikeless) Walkability: 8.2/10 | Performance: 8.6/10 | Combined: 16.8 Payntr Reserve RS (Spiked) Walkability: 8.0/10 | Performance: 8.8/10 | Combined: 16.8 --- ✅ FINAL VERDICT BUY THE SPIKELESS SL IF: You walk the course regularly, want the most natural comfort, and don't need maximum traction. At $140 it's one of the best value walking shoes in this entire series. BUY THE SPIKED RS IF: You want a little extra stability at address and max grip into the ground. Just know you're trading overall traction surface area for the spikes. SKIP BOTH IF: You have a narrow or flat foot — the wide upper will give you too much extra room.
