Taznakht: A Town of Handmade Berber Carpets

It is said that the famous Berber Carpets of the region of Ourzazate are now only weaved in Taznakht, a town nesting in the Atlas Mountains on the main road from Agadir east to Ouarzazate. It is 280 km east from Agadir along a stunningly beautiful scenery, or 88 km if you are coming from Ouarzazate. It is a good stopover place if you are going through and a chance to see some exquisite samples of the famous hand made carpets. Tapis Berber is one of the shops that I visited and details are given. When buying do remember that you are expected to start bargaining. The shopkeeper will start with about double of the price he hopes to get. The more he gets the better for him and opposite for you. You should start with half of what you are prepared to pay and start bidding. Every offer should be met with a counter offer, each side giving in a little. A little by little can go a long way. It is a great experience and it all may look very serious but it is amicable and everyone is happy when a deal is reached.
