Another year another cover amirite? Funnily enough, I would always shy away from covers of any of the Fromsoft's games. I always felt like I wasn't nearly good enough to do them justice, not just the music but the games themselves. Guess that comes with admiration and some amount of unnecessary idealization. Anyway, I'm a big boy now, so the SoulsBorne season is open. For the curious, I'm going to address my absence a bit. Truth be told, it's for no other reason than lack of motivation. These covers take a ridiculous amount of time to make (this one took 90+ hours, no joke), and with 'some' rl struggles, the will to keep making these never comes easy. The knowledgeable in music production could make an argument that's way too long and it shouldn't take so much time. Which is entirely correct, my work ethic isn't flawless, and I tend to spend a lot of time on details a regular listener couldn't even distinguish. In essence, it's flawed perfectionism. Something can be said for care and time put into every bit of a song, but taking weeks to complete a single one, as enjoyable as that may be, is as far from the realm of practicality as it could be. So I've decided to take on a new approach, and set a challenge for myself. For the reminder of the year, I intend to release one cover per every week left in 2022. Unless some freak accident happens which will prevent me from it, like my hard-drives suddenly failing or a spontaneous vacation to a hospital. Wouldn't be the first time in either case. I'm not yet sure if I'll even manage, no doubt these covers won't be of the same quality, but the habit and pressure which comes from working on a schedule as oppose to whenever I feel like it, will be of benefit in the long run. And as per usual, I'll still give them my best even if the time is limited, so that doesn't mean shit music from now on. Just more of it.
