At just 4 years old, Austin was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL)—a journey no child or family ever expects to face. What started as recurring illnesses and persistent infections led to a life-changing diagnosis. Thanks to the top-ranked Leukemia and Lymphoma Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Austin began acute lymphoblastic leukemia treatment immediately, undergoing chemotherapy, physical therapy and the challenges of steroid-induced neuropathy. 💙 What is B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL)? • B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) happens when bone marrow produces too many abnormal B-lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight infection. • Once fatal, now treatable with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, stem cell transplant and targeted therapies. • Requires chemotherapy and long-term care for remission. Despite the challenges, Austin refused to give up. From learning to walk again to returning to school and playing baseball, his journey is an inspiration.
