In this Microsoft Excel video tutorial, we'll cover the practical and detailed calculation of percentages, a topic often requested and a source of frustration. It will be useful for calculating the referendum percentage (or vote percentages), the discount percentage (i.e., a percentage decrease), a percentage increase, or the percentage difference (or percentage change)... but these skills will be useful in many contexts. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to: ◾ Find the percentage of a total with Excel If you have the total in cell A1 and the percentage in cell B1, the formula to find the percentage would be: =B1/A1 ◾ How to calculate the percentage difference between two numbers If you have the first number in cell A1 and the second number in cell B1, the formula to calculate the percentage difference would be: =(B1-A1)/A1 ◾ Multiply by a percentage If you have the initial value in cell A1 and the percentage in cell B1, the formula to multiply by the percentage would be: =A1*B1 ▪️ Percentage increase New number = Initial number * (1 + Percentage increase) or = A1*(1+B1) ▪️ Percentage decrease New number = Initial number * (1 - Percentage decrease) or = A1*(1-B1) Since the discussion was conducted through "use cases," i.e., real-world examples of use, by the end of the video, you will be able to solve most percentage problems you encounter every day.
