Soul II Soul is a British musical collective formed in London in 1988 by Jazzie B (Trevor Beresford Romeo), emerging from his long‑running sound‑system nights at the Africa Centre in Covent Garden. The group blended soul, R&B, dance, British soul, and reggae‑influenced rhythms, and became internationally known for the hit singles “Keep On Movin’” and “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)”, both released in 1989 and featuring vocalist Caron Wheeler. Their debut album Club Classics Vol. One established them as a major force in late‑80s/early‑90s UK Black music, earning two Grammy Awards and multiple BRIT Award nominations. The collective’s lineup has shifted over time, with contributors including Nellee Hooper, Simon Law, Rose Windross, Doreen Waddell, Aitch B, Daddae Harvey, and others, while the project has continued intermittently since its original 1988–1998 run. Virgin Records is a British record label founded in 1972 by Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell, and Tom Newman, originally operating as an independent imprint before growing into one of the most influential global labels of the late 20th century. The company released landmark albums from artists such as Mike Oldfield, Sex Pistols, Tangerine Dream, The Human League, Phil Collins, Culture Club, Simple Minds, and later The Spice Girls, helping define multiple eras of rock, pop, new wave, and electronic music.
