(NOW SOLD) FOR SALE £12,000 - 1977 Kawasaki Z1000 ... Concours & only 700 MILES SINCE ENGINE REBUILD
This is my own personal bike that I am going to regret selling so please read on & apologies if I'm waffling but I feel the background is important! 50 years I had wanted a Z1/ Z900 & I was waiting for the right one to come along. I hit 60 y. o. and kept telling myself I'm too old for Sports Bikes & need to slow down so time to look in earnest for a bike that would help. I sold & delivered another bike to Steve who I bought this one off, who had several concours restored bikes that he had done personally and when he pulled the covers off to show me - that was it, I had to have it! Steve had rebuilt Porsches & all manner of motorbikes for many years & his attention to detail shows on this Zed - no compromises. He had originally fully restored the bike in 2013 then did a couple of thousand miles on it, then professionally stored it. He promised to go through it to freshen up for me before I collected it & then phoned to say a piston ring had gone (he thought when he ran it) & sure enough it was when he took it apart. Consequently, being a man of principle he promised to get it sorted so he sent the head away to be professionally re-bored, ordered some oversized pistons & rebuilt it all for me (I have photographic evidence as well showing his "surgery" like premises with the bike stripped). When it was all done & he was happy I collected the bike. I have done 700 miles on it since, very gently running it in not above 3,000 rpm & not stressing the engine (I was brought up to be very mechanically sympathetic) and have just done a 500 mile change of oil & filter, and dared open her up to 4, 500 rpm! The photos & video speak for themselves & the real deal maker for me was the Z900 4 into 4 genuine exhausts which are worth a small fortune in themselves & whilst not correct for this model just finish the bike off for me & was without doubt the clincher! This is a truly genuine stunning example now registered as an historic example - I believe originally from Austria. It has the correct Takasago wheels & shorter rear mudguard HOWEVER for the purists I understand there will be items you can identify as incorrect - I'm not a Zed expert. All I can say is that this is one superb looking example ready to enjoy & with the meteoric rise of earlier Zeds this will only go one way. So, why am I selling ... I rode a 2012 Fireblade very recently & an R1 which is my favourite sports bike & realised I'm not ready to stop riding them - I miss the adrenaline rush & whilst the Zed is gorgeous to ride I also have nearing completion my FZR1000 Genesis & now have a stunning R1 so do not have anymore room PLUS the Zed just won't get ridden which is criminal in my eyes. I am very very sad to do this but it was an itch I've scratched (I now realise probably too early) and have to be pragmatic SO some lucky person will get to be the next custodian of what is in my opinion the most aesthetically beautiful bike ever made & WHAT an example.
