Childhood anemia continues to be one of the main public health challenges in Peru. In this interview, Juan Fernando Correa, president of Peruanos por Peruanos (Peruvians for Peruans), explains why he believes this disease poses a threat to the country's future. Correa maintains that almost 4 out of 10 Peruvian children suffer from anemia and warns that the greatest risk is concentrated between 6 and 12 months of age, a key stage for brain development. He also states that anemia "is invisible," so many families are unaware of its consequences until the damage is already done.
