There, they accidentally prevent Dryad, the keeper of the forest, from capturing the Phantom who had damaged the roots of the Great Tree of Life. Dryad says that she won’t let the girls go unless Mary finds the water of life to save the tree. Mary and Fluffy the Mouse start their journey and stumble into William the Whistler who guards the Water of Life. Mary helps William to turn his whistling into art. In return, William gives Mary the Water of Life. But on her way back, Mary sees a wounded deer and uses all the water to cure him. Meanwhile, the Phantom has gotten hold of Dryad’s staff, captured Dryad and started cutting down the pine hoping to find the Key of the Earth. Mary arrives just in time to chase the Phantom away with the help of William’s whistling and set the girls and Dryad free. But there’s no water, which means that the tree, and with it, the entire forest, is dying. Suddenly the deer saved by Mary appears. Turns out, he’s the Spirit of the Forest. He brings the tree and the forest back to life and gives Mary the Key of the Earth for her kindness.
