Only Silence Can Hear Silence!
True Silence is not the absence of thoughts within the mind or the absence of noise outside. You can be in profound Silence and still watch some thoughts coming, and you can hear sounds. The true Silence is the silence of the primal Consciousness. It is the one that never changes. Phenomenal silence is only conducive because it helps to connect to the real Silence. When you are immersed in the Silence of your deeper Self, it is a higher experience because duality is not really there. It is Consciousness experiencing Consciousness. You can’t say that in this inner Silence you are a separate individual being, who is experiencing that ‘silence’. YOU ARE that Silence. When you come to abide in it, you connect with the Heart and you receive the transmission from the Guru. This is the highest transmission. When Consciousness is free from objects, you experience the profound Silence of Being. Swami Atmananda Udasin is a teacher of Advaita (Non-duality) and the Spiritual Head of Ajatananda Ashram, Rishikesh, India. This video is a second extract from a retreat given at the ashram on October 23, 2018. http://www.ajatananda.org
