KAJ - Paavos Barkbrö (Skolmusik 2017) (English subtitles)

Bark bread is famine food made by replacing some of the rye flour in the bread with powder made from the layers under tree bark called phloem and cambium. It was eaten in Finland (and Scandinavia) during famine and war. The character in the song, Paavo, is from a famous Finnish poem ''Saarijärven Paavo'', written by J.L. Runeberg in 1830. Runeberg is also considered Finland's national poet.
