********************************************************** In a historic development ending a nearly 25-year-old interstate river dispute, Bihar and Jharkhand are set to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the sharing of Sone river waters under the mediation of the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti. Following the bifurcation of undivided Bihar in November 2000, the division of the state's 7.75 million acre-feet (MAF) share allocated under the 1973 Bansagar Agreement remained contentious. A Central Water Commission (CWC) panel unanimously recommended allocating 5.75 MAF to Bihar and 2.0 MAF to Jharkhand. Both state cabinets cleared the agreement, paving the way for crucial infrastructure projects, including Bihar's long-pending Indrapuri Reservoir Project in Rohtas district.
