The South Korean brand Ssang Yong returns today under the KGM name, and its extensive model lineup—all SUVs but across various segments and price ranges—also includes the Torres. The 4.70-meter-long (17.75-inch) model, already available with a pure gasoline engine and manual transmission, now expands its offering with a full hybrid powertrain. This combines a 1.5-liter Miller-cycle turbocharged gasoline engine with a 1.83 kW/h battery that powers two electric motors. The first, with a power output of 130 kW, is housed in the nine-speed e-DHT transmission and adds 250 Nm of torque to the acceleration thrust. The second, however, works in parallel with the gasoline engine and acts solely as a generator, producing energy and storing it in the battery. The total system power is 204 hp. The Torres HEV is extremely smooth to drive; the system is well-integrated and always favors the electric part, significantly improving noise levels and fuel consumption. The typically Korean design may be controversial, but it's certainly not overlooked and decidedly recognizable. With a price tag starting at €34,990 for the full-hybrid, the Torres is well-positioned compared to the competition, in a competitive market segment and with one of the most popular propulsion technologies today.
