Subscribe for NEW plant based japanese cooking videos each week!    / @alldayieatlikeashark   i love white rice. i also love brown rice. what about you? chances are you've grown to love white rice, because it's just that more prevalent and neutral when it comes to being served with food. 🍙 did you know... brown rice is a better source of fiber? as you may know, dietary fiber comes in two forms- soluble and insoluble. brown rice being a whole grain - gets you the insoluble kind which is great for going poo poo (ウンチ). brown rice helps keep you regular in addition to working with the soluble kind (which absorbs water) to help with satiation (feeling full like 'i'm done eating now' ) and helping to mediate your blood sugars by slowing down some of the absorption of the carbohydrates and sugars that are naturally found within rice. 🍙did you know, brown rice is a better source of protein? just a little bit, but it is more filling than white rice. isn't it? for those watching their blood sugars, additional protein also makes brown rice less likely to spike your blood sugar as compared to white rice. and even if you're not watching your blood sugars, this means it's less likely to give you a food coma! 🍘 did you know... brown rice may have slightly more calories per serving? true, but that's not the whole picture. brown rice is also more nutrient dense which offsets those calories. plus the benefits you're getting from the fiber help to offset the small calorie difference. 🍱 did you know.... brown rice is a better source of nutrients like vitamins and minerals? and you may feel like you need to argue with me on this but... brown rice is more flavorful. brown rice has a robust and nutty earthy flavor and texture. therefore certain foods may or may not be ideal to pair with white rice. but a good quality white rice can be just as flavorful and aromatic. now is high quality white rice that tastes and smells good always available and served at restaurants? seldom... because it tends to be expensive. so your next best bet? you guessed it - brown rice! 🍚 as you may know, rice is an integral part of traditional japanese cuisine. so much so that theres even 6 emojis to represent (🍱🍘🍙🍚🍛🍣)! and what may surprise you is that not everyone may love brown rice in japan! i certainly didnt when i was growing up. and it wasnt until recently when i discovered the benefits i just shared with you that i made a conscious effort to eat more of it in my weekly routine. perhaps this video may help you follow in that path. 🍣 FACT: in japan, historically brown rice was seen as an inferior food reserved for poor farmers. after all, white rice is refined product of brown rice. thus making the white rice a symbol of wealth and upper class status. has much changed since ? you tell me. or could brown rice be before its time?
