Talking History |2| Delhi: The Foundation of Dilli Sultanate

Talking History, a new series on Rajya Sabha TV is charting the past of fabulous Indian cities and their history. In this episode, we revisit the rise of Mamluk Turks, popularly known as Slave Dynasty, in Delhi. After the defeat of Chauhan rulers at the hands of Mohammad Ghori in the second battle of Tarain, Qutbuddin Aibak was placed as in-charge of Delhi. Aibak laid the foundation of 'Dilli Sultanate' and built on the existing cities of Mehrauli and Lal Kot. The majestic Qutub Minar was built during his times and Mehrauli came up as the centre of new kingdom in Delhi.
