Perhaps that longing is still what drives me to point my camera at birds today. It's been over 40 years since I started observing and photographing wild birds. During that time, the environment surrounding the birds has changed, and so has our own environment as observers. What I've consistently continued to do is to record the vibrant, natural lives of birds, along with their habitats. It's about documenting the evidence that this bird lived robustly in this place, at this time of year, in this season. I photograph bird portraits. I aim to capture portraits that reveal the personality of the person being photographed, and I strive to do the same with wild birds. I pay close attention to the light and background, including the environment in which the bird lives, and above all, to the bird's natural expressions and gestures. This photo exhibition, "Bird Portraits," showcases approximately 40 photographs of birds taken with this in mind. I hope you can feel the vibrant lives of the birds, the environment and atmosphere in which they live, and that it will inspire you to pay even a little attention to the nature around them, including the birds. OM SYSTEM GALLERY Number of Works: 45 Creative Vision Slideshow Exhibition ■Artist Profile Toshikazu Nakamura Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. After graduating from the Department of Photography, College of Art, Nihon University, he worked as an assistant before becoming a freelance photographer. Since starting to observe wild birds in high school, influenced by a friend, he has been documenting the natural expressions and gestures of familiar wild birds. He is particular about "light" and continues to photograph the environment in which birds live, cherishing the atmosphere of the place. His published works include the photobook "BIRD CALL" (Seiseisha) and "Illustrated Guide to Bird Skeletons" (Bun-ichi Sogo Shuppan, co-authored).
