CDRE (R) MUHAMMAD ILYAS | Father of Pakistan Naval Aviation | NAVY

A series that pays tribute to all those retired military personnel who went beyond the call of duty to give Pakistan a chance to progress towards a much more powerful nation. In this episode: Commodore M Ilyas joined Pakistan Navy in 1956 as a telegraphist. Subsequently he was selected as an officer cadet and got commission in 1966 with distinction and won the coveted Sword of Honour. The officer is a graduate of Pakistan Navy Staff College & Airforce war college, and has a Masters Degree from NDU. He participated in both 1965 and 1971 wars. For this he was awarded Tamga-e-Harb. He has the distinction of being the first Pakistan Navy Aviation officer who raised it from scratch and subsequently rose to command it. In addition to that he also Commanded the Destroyer PNS Alamgir ,Cruiser PNS Babur and commanded mine sweeping squadron. For his scrupulous service and bravery the officer was also awarded Sitare-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Basalat.
