In this video, we aim to understand and practice the Apoyando technique of picado (a right-hand technique for string instruments). Apoyando is often misunderstood and is one of the more challenging right-hand techniques, affecting fast playing as well. First, we will explain the important differences between Al Aire and Apoyando. Next, we will demonstrate the correct movement for Apoyando. After that, we will observe the finger movements when playing with Apoyando to understand the differences. Following that, we will introduce training exercises to master this Apoyando movement. We will start with practice using the index and middle fingers, then move on to practice with the bass strings and the 6th string. Once you get accustomed to it, we will practice moving between strings. A key point to note is not to practice at a fast tempo. This is important because trying to play fast can lead to bad habits. Practice is meant to build a sense of the movement and should be done at a speed where you can feel the technique. The important thing here is the saying, "Rome wasn't built in a day."
