They did "NOT" expel him for being gay.
Further Information and Disclaimers: This video tackles a raw, deeply painful subject, and I want to offer some critical context—particularly for my LGBTQ+ viewers. First, this is a story about a young queer person being mistreated by an institution on religious grounds. Second, because of how I chose to approach this topic, much of my language may sound as though I am conceding to or validating conservative theological frameworks regarding sexuality. To be crystal-clear: I am an atheist. I do not believe being gay is a temptation to avoid, a disease to be cured, or a sin to be hidden. I believe being queer is a beautiful, natural expression of human identity to be celebrated. However, the primary target audience for this video is conservative, Bible-believing Christians and those who care about institutional integrity. In order to have a substantive and meaningful conversation, I chose to intentionally interact with their worldview and speak their dialect. By evaluating this situation strictly through the lens of conservative Christian theology, my goal is to highlight that—even by the seminary's own stated standards—Jesse was treated with a lack of grace, justice, and fairness. To clarify a few personal and technical points regarding this video: On Celibacy: Jesse’s decision to pursue a life of celibacy is rooted in his own deeply held theological convictions. While I personally disagree with that theological stance and have shared those sentiments with him as a friend, my support for Jesse is absolute. Real friendship and respect mean honoring a queer person's autonomy, dignity, and religious freedom even when their personal faith journey looks different than what I would choose for them. On Pronouns & Identity: Jesse experiences gender dysphoria and uses he/they pronouns. After consulting directly with Jesse, I chose to use "he/him" throughout the video for narrative simplicity and clarity, keeping the focus entirely on the core facts of his expulsion. Jesse fully approved this choice. On My Role: As someone outside of this community, I recognize this is not my personal story. My goal here is simply to use my platform to stand up for a friend, call for institutional fairness, and defend someone who deserved so much better. Thank you for watching with an open mind.
