1.)SANCTION OF WORK Reconnaissance Engineering cum Traffic Survey for a new BG line between Bellary and Lingsugur was sanctioned vide Blue Book No 22 of 2014-15. 2.)INTRODUCTION The project area is in Karnataka state and falls within the jurisdiction of Hubli Division of South Western Railway. Bellary Junction (BAY) is a major Junction station connecting to Guntakal (GTL), Hubli (UBL) and Chikjajur (JRU). Lingasugur, which is currently not connected by rail, is a proposed junction station for this project. Bagalkot (BGK), on the Gadag (GDG South Western Railway) Solapur (SUR Central Railway) line is the nearest railway station to Lingasugur and is situated at a distance of about 100 km by road. 3.)FOREST AREA There is no forest area in the proposed alignment. 4.)DISCUSSION OF ROUTE The proposed alignment takes off at Bellary Cantonment, an existing halt station on the BAY-HPT section, situated at a chainage of 5.05 km from Bellary Junction. It connects the prominent towns in the region namely, Siruguppa, Sindhanur and Maski. The alignment is 132.18 km in length with a total curve length of 38.52 km (28.14%). It also has 95 road crossings (ROB-18, RUB77) and 23 major bridges. 5.)CONCLUSION At an estimated project cost of Rs. 1161.95 Crores, the cost per km is estimated to be Rs. 8.80 Crores. Bellary September 23: Bellary MP Y Devendrappa has appealed to the central government in the Parliament session to provide the necessary funds announced in the Union Budget 2014-15 for the commencement of the new railway line between Bellary-Shiraguppa- Lingasur. vai Devendrapra raised the matter today in the zero hour of Parliament. In the budget of 2014-15, the launch of the new railway line was announced. An estimate of Rs 1160 crore in this regard was submitted to the Railway Board in January 2019. But in the backdrop of not announcing any grant for this in the budget of 2019-20, it has fallen into a quagmire in the Railway Board itself. Construction of Bellary - Shiraguppa - Sindhanur - Lingasur railway line will connect Wadi, Solapur, North India, North East India and Kalyan to Karnataka.
