I tratti del fantasy

Dragons, wizards, Dark Lords, and impossible missions: what really holds fantasy together? Starting with Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings"—the work that crystallized modern fantasy—we analyze the 11 traits identified by Giuseppe Candela in his essay "Fantasy Literature: Theory and History of a Narrative Genre," which allows us to go beyond the surface and uncover the genre's hidden model: from the great epic sagas to the Quest, from the Secondary World to magic as a regulated system, to the conflict between good and evil and the technique of interlacing. However, fantasy is not a "cage" of rules, but a blurred whole, as Brian Attebery argues: a recognizable core that authors can reinvent, subvert, and transform.
