The World's Best Bear Experience: Camping with Brown Bears in Katmai National Park

Katmai National Park in Alaska is home to the densest population of brown bears on the planet and is one of the only places where these usually territorial creatures peacefully hunt side-by-side. Every July, these world famous coastal brown bears will patiently wait at the top of Brooks Falls to catch sockeye salmon, from mid-air, during their migration upstream. Visiting Katmai National Park was at the top of our Alaska bucket list, but there were definitely challenges along the way, including confusing logistics, canceled boat rides, and 50 mile per hour winds.
