Magnetic Dipoles and Magnetism in Materials - Electromagnetism
In this video we introduce the concept of the magnetic dipole moment, which is defined as the product of the outer current of a surface and the area of that surface. We then go on to use apply this concept to atoms that comprise a solid. Electrons circulating around a nucleus create an crystal array of dipole moments that macroscopically produce a magnetisation. We then derive a relationship between the external magnetic field (H) and the magnetisation (M), and compare this to the very similar phenomenon that occurs in the polarisation of dielectrics. Finally, we modify Ampere's Law for a current that is passing through a magnetic material. Link to my Patreon page: / pazzyboardmanphysicstutorials
