Griffin EZ-LOK Review w/Rugged Obsidian 45 | Handgun Suppressor Attachment Perfected
The Griffin Armament EZ-LOK system is one of the greatest and yet most subtle innovations in the firearm suppressor industry in recent years. I love using suppressors / silencers on both rifles and handguns, but for a long time suppressing pistols was not as fun of an experience because of how common it could be to have your suppressor slowly walk off the threads of your host firearm under normal fire after even just 5-10 rounds. Teflon plumber's tape could help, but it wasn't always fool proof. The Griffin EZ-LOK system completely changes the game, and they made some very smart decisions when rolling out the product as well. Griffin originally released CAM-LOK in 2020, which was in itself a great advancement that allowed for a rapid 3-lug style attachment for pistols with better retention than standard direct thread. As effective as CAM-LOK is, there were some individuals out there that had challenges with it - myself included. It was fairly easy to over-torque the connections and cause damage to the devices. A year later, Griffin Armament released EZ-LOK. Using a large continuous tapered thread setup, EZ-LOK makes suppressor attachment fast, easy and far more secure than standard direct thread. In a brilliant move, Griffin also released barrel adapters for a wide variety of thread pitches, and even released several pistons that would work in competitors' suppressor products. This is a fantastic choice that is really a gift to the suppressor industry as a whole in my opinion. My Rugged Obsidian 45 is my go-to pistol / handgun suppressor. It is the first silencer I ever purchased and it lives up to the hype of being quiet, modular and versatile. However, I did have multiple end cap strikes over the years when it would slowly walk off my host firearm's threads while shooting. Rugged has spectacular customer service, so they took care of me every time - but I was sometimes hesitant to shoot my pistols suppressed due to the headaches it had caused in the past. The Griffin EZ-LOK system seems poised to make these concerns a thing of the past -- but did it work? Only one way to find out! I ran 250 rounds of subsonic 9mm and 45 ACP ammunition through 5 of my favorite handgun hosts in this review session. My Sig P226 Legion, Sig P320 RX, CZ SP-01 Tactical, CZ P10F OR and FNX-45 Tactical were a lot of fun to run with this configuration. I put the Griffin EZ-LOK setup with the Rugged Obsidian 45 through its paces by frequently swapping between host firearms, changing calibers, shooting rapidly, and even running a full 50-round stress test where I didn't attempt to tighten the suppressor at all in between rounds or magazines. While testing the setups, I also did some POV sound comparisons of the hosts to see if any stood out from the rest. It was a great day and I look forward to shooting suppressed pistols more often in the future. What are your thoughts on the EZ-LOK system's performance?
