Spotlight On Seniors: Navigating the Challenges of Combatting Elder Financial Exploitation

In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, this panel highlights the efforts to combat financial exploitation which are intensifying as awareness grows around its prevalence and impact. Strengthening these efforts requires a combination of preventive tools, early detection strategies, and coordinated responses across sectors. Panelists examine practical tools designed to safeguard individuals’ financial well-being, including powers of attorney, conservatorship arrangements, and the use of trusted contacts. The discussion highlights how these mechanisms can be used effectively, and addresses their limitations, potential for misuse, and the importance of oversight and accountability.
