FULL VIDEO!!! During a working visit to China, the President of Belarus visited Peking University. Alexander Lukashenko attended the graduation ceremony for graduates of the first joint educational program between leading Belarusian and Chinese universities at Peking University. The current graduating class of Belarusian specialists studying in Beijing is the first under the joint educational program, an agreement for which was signed in 2022 between Belarusian State University and Peking University. "We would like to see the foundation laid here developed. We in Belarus would like these programs to be deep and comprehensive, and (we would also like this) to be practice-oriented. Otherwise, what good is this training if it is not fully focused on practice and does not benefit both peoples?" said Alexander Lukashenko. This year's graduates had to endure a tough competition four years ago to qualify for the joint Belarusian-Chinese program. However, all applicants were treated equally. "It didn't matter who they were: the President's son or an ordinary boy from a village or city school. They had an equal opportunity to stand on this stage," the Belarusian leader noted. "The selection process showed that not everyone is cut out for an education in a foreign language (in this case, English). Especially in biotechnology or engineering—these aren't the humanities," the Head of State added. "The terminology and scientific concepts are complex. It's not all that simple in a foreign language. At least no one in Belarus has or will accuse you of receiving an education here through some kind of patronage." Alexander Lukashenko reiterated that Belarusian specialists will work in Belarus, although Russian and Chinese companies, for example, were interested in them. "These are unique young people who are eager to be recruited not only in Belarus. They have already been invited to work for large sums of money in China, Russia—large countries. I'm sure they'll be invited to work in the West as well. But my condition is extremely stringent: we've done everything we can to ensure that you study here for Belarus," he stated. "But science is international; it can't belong to any one nation or be isolated. We are ready to work from Belarus, first and foremost, for the well-being of the Chinese people and all those who wish to collaborate with us." As noted, specialists trained under the joint Belarusian-Chinese program will invent a very expensive and essential drug for the treatment of cancer tumors using Chinese technology. "This is something that is desperately needed throughout the world." The head of state addressed the graduates with a farewell speech and urged them to do everything possible for the benefit of Belarus. "Guys, I address you as President. You must know that you are ours, you are Belarusians. And we must do everything we can to develop Belarus. We must do so that, even if we envy the Chinese state in its development, it will be only a small amount. We must learn to do everything ourselves. We are skilled in many things, we have the foundation for your work. And you know that you will always have the highest level of support. So create, build. A great future awaits you. Remember that the state has done a lot for you." Addressing the graduates, the Head of State also noted that they might have wanted to get more out of their education. Nevertheless, the Chinese specifics must be taken into account. "Quietly, calmly, without any rush or excess, strive towards your goal. The key is that they never destroyed anything, as we, unfortunately, did by destroying the country, the Soviet Union, and today we have the corresponding consequences – war with each other. The Chinese didn't do this because they were never in a hurry. They always thought before they acted." "I want you to understand my intention. China is a great country. Someone visiting China for the first time might not notice it. But this is my 17th time in the People's Republic of China. I've seen a lot here. This is a country that, despite fierce competition, has made a colossal leap forward in 35 years. As a member of the Supreme Council, I proposed taking a serious look at China's development. I said (and I was right): China has a great future." The President expressed gratitude to the leadership of two universities – Belarusian State and Beijing University – which fulfilled his instructions and took the first steps toward deepening cooperation. The head of state expressed confidence that biotechnology is the future and outlined plans to create a special center for training in the professions of the future. The president also toured an exhibition dedicated to the Chinese university's cooperation with Belarus. The visit to Peking University symbolically concluded with the planting of a yuanbaofeng tree, or treasure maple, at the university's highest point. This tree symbolizes wealth and longevity.
