Welcome to Episode 9 of my God of War (2018) story playthrough — where the climb out of the mines turns into a full-blown fight for survival against one of the biggest threats we’ve faced yet. This episode starts with “Ascend the Cave Shaft” as Kratos and Atreus push upward through the mines, climbing out of the darkness and back toward the mountain’s upper reaches. The traversal here is tense and vertical, with the sense that you’re getting closer to your goal — but also closer to something dangerous waiting ahead. That danger arrives in the form of Hrǽzlyr, the dragon that turns the mountain path into a war zone. A cinematic encounter where Kratos and Atreus have to work together under extreme pressure.
