Viva Snatcher

In this video I demonstrate one of the many variations of the Snatcher family of Stillwater wet fly patterns, the Viva Snatcher. The original Snatcher was tied in Scotland to represent large lake midges normally found in Scottish Lochs such as Loch Leven, where this pattern found fame. The Snatcher is characterised by its curved body, palmered hackle and goose biot cheeks tied in the style of horns. This variation takes on the classic colouration of Black and Chartreuse that the Viva Lure has, that proves deadly for Trout, especially Rainbow Trout. I used to fish a set of lakes in a syndicate in Mid-Wales, near the village of Carno and the trigger colours for the fish there were Black and Chartreuse. I tied this pattern up on a heavy barbless curved Carp hook after seeing it on my google images feed, thinking it would fish well as a point fly. I was right and it became one of our staple patterns for myself and Ken amongst a few other patterns in the same colour combination. I tied foam beetles, foam emergers, buzzers, this Snatcher and lure patterns such as the Viva, Daddy and Cats Whisker in the same colours. All proved very effective as I am sure they would elsewhere, so I have shared the pattern here.
