How to deal with breathlessness in lung disease?

Dealing with breathlessness in chronic lung disease can be difficult. I talk about causes for breathlessness in advanced lung disease, what tests may be done to determine the reason and what to do. Treating breathlessness is a holistic approach, targeting several health problems (it is not always just the lungs). Symptomatic treatment such as fan therapy, learning coping mechanisms, therapy and counselling, anti-anxiety medication, low dose morphine or other opioids can help. Pulmonary rehabilitation and keeping active are essential. Oxygen therapy may also help if indicated in your case. Preventing further worsening of the lung condition is also very important (stopping smoking, taking treatments correctly, going for regular follow-ups).
