Try to make it an odd number of rows to leave the center stitch on hold for the center rib. If your garment has an even number of rows, leave 2 center stitches (which will be decreased later). If you want a higher neckline, work 10 rows after the armhole. If you want a lower neckline, work 10 rows below the armhole. If my garment has a pattern, the neckline should be separated accordingly; the rows before or after are approximate. If I'm not picking up stitches for a band, I should separate 10 rows above the armhole. If I'm knitting a vest, since there are more armhole rows, the neckline is formed 10 rows higher.
