February 28, 2015 The float "From Las Palmas to Maspalomas the Cabaret" has been chosen as the winner of the 2015 Maspalomas International Carnival Float Competition, held this Saturday afternoon/evening in Playa del Inglés. Second prize went to the float "Los Genios," while third prize went to the float "La Carroza del Tike Tike." The 2015 Maspalomas International Carnival Grand Parade broke a new participation record on its 41st anniversary, with 121 floats this year, four more than last year. During the parade, the main streets of the tourist area became a vibrant celebration of joy and color, with some 300,000 people, including carnivalgoers and the public. As in previous editions, the adult and child Queen opened the procession, with their respective ladies-in-waiting, preceded by various floats. Carnival groups included comparsas, the batucada of San Fernando de Maspalomas, the float of the Grand Dame and her bridesmaids, as well as the Carnival Drag Queen, who came in second and third. The costumes offered their original colors, music, magic, and parody with the usual fun scenes to the sound of the floats. This year's parodies of Belén Esteban, Podemos, and the black cards were also present. The parade began at 5:00 p.m. with a temperature of 22 degrees and clear skies, starting from the Hotel Parque Tropical along Avenida Italia and Gran Canaria, and ending at Avenida del Tour Operador TUI in Campo Internacional. Jury The jury was composed of representatives from the hospitality, consumer, and charity sectors, among others, chaired by Benito Pérez Franco. Regarding the prizes for the floats, the contest rules establish three prizes of 400, 200, and 100 euros for the float. first, second, and third place, respectively. Gran Mogollón After the Parade, the party continues on the stage of the Yumbo Shopping Center with the Gran Mogollón "Oui we CanCan," featuring DJ Tony Bob (Yuh FM), DJ Promaster, and the "La Golosina" Orchestra.
